A Family Favorite: Flavorful Turkey Meatloaf Recipe

Turkey meatloaf has become my favorite way to make this classic dish, especially compared to the traditional ground beef option. The ground turkey is not only leaner, making it a healthier alternative, but it also absorbs flavors beautifully, resulting in a moist and flavorful loaf that the whole family loves. With a delightful balance of seasonings and the perfect glaze, this turkey meatloaf quickly became a staple in our home, earning rave reviews from my family every time.

Turkey Meatloaf

Ingredients

For the Meatloaf:

  • 3 lb ground turkey (85/15)

  • ½ sweet onion, diced and sautéed until soft

  • 1 packet onion soup mix

  • 2 large eggs

  • 4 to 5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ cup seasoned bread crumbs

  • 2 tbsp minced garlic

  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce

For the Glaze:

  • ¼ cup ketchup

  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce

  • ⅛ cup spicy mustard

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Sauté Onion: In a skillet, sauté the diced sweet onion in a little olive oil over medium heat until it becomes soft and translucent. Set aside to cool slightly.

  3. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, sautéed onion, onion soup mix, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned bread crumbs, minced garlic, and barbecue sauce. Mix well until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  4. Shape the Loaf: Transfer the mixture into a greased loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. Prepare Glaze: In a separate bowl, mix together the ketchup, barbecue sauce, spicy mustard, and brown sugar until smooth.

  6. Glaze the Meatloaf: Spread half of the glaze mixture over the top of the meatloaf before placing it in the oven. Save the other half for later.

  7. Bake: Bake the turkey meatloaf in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

  8. Add Remaining Glaze: During the last 10 minutes of baking, spread the remaining glaze over the meatloaf for an extra layer of flavor.

  9. Rest and Serve: Once cooked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with your favorite sides.

This turkey meatloaf is not just a meal; it’s a comforting dish that brings my family together. The robust flavors and satisfying texture make it a long-lasting favorite at our dinner table. Enjoy!
