A Classic Apple Pie Recipe for a Perfect Fall Dessert

Apple pie has long been regarded as a quintessential fall dessert, capturing the cozy essence of the season with its warm, sweet, and spiced flavors. Whether it’s shared with loved ones during a Thanksgiving gathering or enjoyed as a comforting treat on a crisp autumn day, apple pie never fails to bring joy and nostalgia. In this recipe, I’ll guide you through creating a mouthwatering apple pie that will fill your kitchen with the aroma of caramelized apples and cinnamon. So, let's get started!

Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • Pie Crust (top and bottom): You can either use my homemade pie crust recipe or opt for a convenient premade one.

  • 6 apples

  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1/8 cup flour

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If using a premade crust, follow the instructions on the package for blind baking the bottom crust.

  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss the slices in lemon juice to prevent them from turning brown.

  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir until well combined.

  4. Add the brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and vanilla extract to the saucepan. Stir until the mixture is smooth and the sugar has dissolved.

  5. Add the apple slices to the saucepan and gently toss them until they are evenly coated with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

  6. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the apples for 5-7 minutes, or until they are slightly softened. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.

  7. Place the bottom crust into a pie dish. Pour the apple filling into the crust, evenly distributing the slices.

  8. If using a premade top crust, follow the package instructions for creating a lattice or full top crust. If making your own, create your desired crust design.

  9. Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

  10. Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the filling to set.

Conclusion: With its buttery crust, tender apple filling, and enticing aroma, apple pie is undoubtedly a fall dessert staple that brings comfort and joy to any occasion. Whether you serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, this classic dessert is sure to please. So, embrace the flavors of the season and indulge in a slice of homemade apple pie.
